Elephant Drive:
Online Storage Review
Elephant Drive offers one of the most basic online backup services on our list. Their basic plan is larger and cheaper than some of their competitors and they also offer up to 2TBs, a storage amount that is uncommon. Elephant Drive has been in the game for a long time but has never made a name for their company.
This has happened because while they offer file and folder sharing they do not offering computer syncing. And while they offer the ability to backup multiple devices, you can only backup three devices. It is available on MAC, PC, any Java supporting server, QNAP NAS, Thecus NAS, and Netgear ReadyNAS devices.
Elephant Drive: Features and Specifications
- Military Grade Encryption – What this really means is that they use 256-bit AES encryption, but Military grade does sound nice.
- Intelligent Software – Elephant Drive uses incremental backups which can be bandwidth intensive. Elephant Drive has developed their own software that simultaneously maximizes bandwidth usage while also minimizing the effects on your system.
- Compatibility – Elephant Drive works with Mac computers, PCs and external storage devices.
- Secure File Sharing – You can share a file with just a click and also password-protect those files. Great for files too big to email.
- Remote Access –
Elephant Drive allows you to access your store information 24/7 through their
web-based portal.
Elephant Drive: Security and Encryption
As mentioned in the features Elephant Drive uses 256-bit AES encryption, which is high grade security. They also use 128-bit SSL to transfer your files to their servers securely. You can also password protect shared folders so that colleagues, friends and family can access information securely.
Elephant Drive:
Customer Support
Elephant Drive offers a very limited support system with only email support. They do not offer online chat or even a phone option. They do have a knowledge base, a training center, FAQs and video tutorials. Their service is really geared towards the do-it-yourself crowd.
Setup with Elephant Drive is very simple, just download, install it and start backing up. Their interface is a little complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it is easy-to-use. If you are familiar with using Windows Elephant Drive should be easy to get a hang of.
The Verdict
Elephant Drive is a decent online backup service. They offer competitive prices on data storage but offer a lackluster set of features. Their security is very good though, something that is very important. Overall Elephant drive is a mediocre service that just doesn’t stack up that well against its competitors.
We still recommend checking out their free 15-trial account to see if you like their services and how they compare to their competitors.
