Zip Cloud:
Cloud Backup Review
Zip Cloud originally comes from the UK and is one of their leading online backup providers. They are now trying to make a name in the US market by offering a service that lives up to their motto of “Simple. Safe. Secure.” Zip Cloud offers exactly that. Zip Clouds software and service are one of the easiest to use cloud storage solutions. All you have to do is enter in your name, an email and make a password on their main page and in seconds you can be downloading and setting up their software.
Zip Cloud offers unlimited storage, plus the basic array of features including automated backups, remote access, multiple computer synching and even mobile access. They are also one of the cheapest online backup providers available. Zip Cloud believes in simplicity and ease-of-use, so far they are living up to their motto.
Zip Cloud: Features and Specifications
- Simplicity – Like their motto says Zip Cloud is a very simple and easy-to-use service. They have a very quick installation process that will have you backing up your files in no time.
- Automated Backups – Set it and forget it with Zip Cloud. Once you set your schedule you never have to worry about backing up you computer again.
- Unlimited Storage – This is a great feature for a great price. What’s better than unlimited storage?
- Security – Zip Cloud uses 256-bit AES encryption and SSL. So while their service is simple and straight forward, their security is complicated making it really secure. This is why Zip Cloud is Safe and Secure.
- Mobile Access – While Zip Cloud is a bit more basic than other services, they do still offer great features like mobile access, which allows you to access you data from most mobile devices.
Zip Cloud: Security and Encryption
Zip Cloud offers security that exceeds industry standards. As mentioned above they offer 256-bit AES encryption and also SSL to transport the data securely. The data is stored on Amazon S3 storage servers, servers that are considered some of the best. Information is also redundantly stored, meaning your backup is backed up.
Zip Cloud however doesn’t offer file-and-folder password protection, a feature they will hopefully soon offer with their product as it would add another layer of security.
Zip Cloud: Customer Support
Zip Cloud might take simple a little bit too far here only offering email support. However their service is so simple not much can really go wrong. Zip Cloud does offer a knowledge-base, an FAQ and video tutorials. You can also contact their sales and billing via phone.
Sorry to hammer this point too much, but it really cannot be said enough how easy-to-use Zip Cloud is. Install it and start backing up. Sometimes the best services are the simple ones.
The Verdict
Zip Cloud is a great value; unlimited data, easy-to-use, handy features and great security. While their customer service is a bit lacking, the rest of the product isn’t. This company is a great rival to many of the leading backup companies.
